DJI launched its next flagship 360° camera, the Osmo 360 II, in China this week — its first major update to the Osmo 360 line since the original model. It brings 8K60p video, replaceable lenses, and a big jump in dynamic range. But if you're a creator in Nairobi hoping to buy one, there's a catch: DJI hasn't announced a global release date, and the camera currently only ships in China.
What DJI actually announced
The Osmo 360 II launched in China on August 13, 2026, priced from RMB 3,299 (roughly $499) for the standard kit, with an Adventure Combo at $599. Key upgrades over the original Osmo 360 include:
- 8K60p 360° video at 7680×3840 resolution, up from the previous generation's frame rate ceiling
- Up to 14.5 stops of dynamic range, DJI's widest yet on a 360 camera
- User-replaceable lenses hardened with an ion-sputtering coating, aimed at reducing scratches and smudges from daily use
- 120MP panoramic stills with RAW support and HDR photo modes
On paper, that puts it ahead of most 360 cameras currently sold internationally, including Insta360's current flagship.
Why Kenyan buyers can't get it yet — and might not soon
DJI has not confirmed a global release date or international pricing for the Osmo 360 II. There's no product listing on DJI's international storefront, and the camera has FCC authorization dating back to December 2025 but still no U.S. price. DJI's own track record offers a rough guide: the Osmo Pocket 4 reached international markets about six weeks after its China-only debut earlier this year. If the Osmo 360 II follows the same pattern, a global launch could land by late September — but that's an estimate based on past behaviour, not a confirmed date, and DJI products aren't sold through an official Kenyan retail channel even once they do go global, so grey-market import pricing and warranty gaps are the norm.
What Kenyan creators can actually buy right now
If you need a 360° camera this month — for a safari shoot, a property walkthrough, a wedding, or just building a YouTube or TikTok channel — Insta360's current lineup is genuinely available in Kenya today, with local warranty and M-Pesa checkout, rather than a China-only camera with an uncertain arrival date.
The Insta360 X5 is the closer match to what DJI just announced: an 8K 360° camera with a 1/1.28" sensor, F2.0 lens, and up to 72MP photos, plus flat-video and single-lens shooting modes for when you don't want the fisheye look. The Insta360 X4 is the budget route — still 8K-capable, IPX8 waterproof to 10m without a case, and built around a rugged Gorilla Glass touchscreen, at roughly two-thirds the price.
Frequently asked questions
Is the DJI Osmo 360 II available in Kenya?
No. As of this article, the Osmo 360 II is only sold in China, with no confirmed international release date or price. DJI has no official retail presence in Kenya even for products it does sell globally.
Should I wait for the DJI Osmo 360 II instead of buying an Insta360 now?
If you need footage this month — for a shoot, an event, or a trip — waiting on an unconfirmed global date means waiting indefinitely. The Insta360 X5 already matches the Osmo 360 II on 8K 360° video and is in stock in Kenya today with local warranty and M-Pesa payment.
What's the difference between the Insta360 X5 and X4?
The X5 has a larger 1/1.28" sensor, brighter F2.0 lens and higher-resolution 72MP photos, aimed at creators who want the best image quality. The X4 is the budget option at KES 44,000, still shooting up to 8K with strong waterproofing, better suited to casual vloggers and first-time 360 camera buyers.
