Xiaomi has launched the 18 Pro and 18 Pro Max in China, and this time the Pro models are officially coming outside China too. That is a change from the Xiaomi 17 Pro, which stayed home. For Kenyan buyers who like Xiaomi's camera phones, it is worth knowing what is coming before spending flagship money.
No global date and no Kenya price have been announced yet, so here is what is confirmed, what is not, and what you can buy in Nairobi today.
What Xiaomi launched on September 23
The 18 Pro has a 6.4 inch 120Hz AMOLED screen and runs the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6. The 18 Pro Max steps up to a 6.9 inch display and the Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6. Both come with 12GB or 16GB of RAM and up to 1TB of UFS 4.1 storage.

Both phones share the same camera system: a 200MP main camera, a 200MP telephoto at 3.2x and a 50MP ultrawide. Xiaomi also added its own take on a privacy display. The front camera can detect someone looking over your shoulder and switch the privacy screen on automatically, and it can be triggered by location in busy public places. That is a genuinely useful feature on a matatu or in a crowded Nairobi CBD queue.
Both phones charge at 100W over a cable. The 18 Pro Max carries an 8,500mAh battery. Reports disagree on the smaller 18 Pro's exact battery size and wireless charging speed, so we are not quoting those until Xiaomi publishes global specs.
Price and availability: what is confirmed
In China the series starts at CNY 5,999 for the 18 Pro (12GB and 256GB), which is just under 900 US dollars, with the 18 Pro Max starting at CNY 6,999. Xiaomi has said the Pro models will be sold outside China, and Xiaomi India has teased a launch, but there is no date for Kenya or East Africa and no international pricing.
The Xiaomi 17 reached global markets in February 2026, so a similar gap is possible, but that is a guess, not an announcement. Xiaomi's leadership has also reportedly said memory costs may keep rising, so global prices could land higher than a straight currency conversion suggests.
Sensible rule: if you need a flagship camera phone this month, buy what is in stock. If you can wait until early 2027, watch for the global price first.
What to buy in Nairobi while you wait
The closest Xiaomi flagship trewrld stocks right now is the Xiaomi 14 Ultra with 512GB storage and 16GB RAM, a camera-first phone for creators and travellers. If your budget is lower, the Redmi Note 13 Pro+ 5G with 512GB and 12GB gives you a big screen and a high resolution camera for less than half the price.
