MacBook Pro 16-inch M5 Max

Pro power. Nothing held back.

The 16 inch MacBook Pro with M5 Max puts an 18 core CPU, up to a 40 core GPU with a Neural Accelerator in every core and up to 614GB/s of memory bandwidth into one laptop, with up to 22 hours of battery life. It is built for the editors, 3D artists, developers and data teams who want local AI models, 8K timelines and huge builds to run on the machine itself, whether that is in a studio in Kilimani or on a shoot in Naivasha.

• 18 coreCPU with 6 super cores and 12 performance cores
• 40 coreGPU option, with a Neural Accelerator in every core
• 4xFaster LLM prompt processing than M4 Max
• 22 hrsVideo streaming on a single charge

M5 Max. Two dies, one chip.

M5 Max uses Apple's new Fusion Architecture, joining two dies into a single system on a chip. Apple measures it against M4 Max at up to 3.8x faster AI image generation, up to 4x faster LLM prompt processing, up to 3x faster video effects rendering in DaVinci Resolve Studio and up to 3.5x faster AI video enhancement in Topaz Video. Against M1 Max, AI image generation is up to 8x faster. Hardware accelerated ray tracing and support for H.264, HEVC, ProRes, ProRes RAW and AV1 cover the whole pro workflow.

Memory for big models

The 32 core GPU configuration comes with 36GB of unified memory at 460GB/s. The 40 core GPU configuration has 48GB at 614GB/s, the extra headroom you want for larger AI models, heavy 3D scenes and multicam edits. Both start at a 2TB SSD, and Apple rates the new SSDs at up to 2x faster than the previous generation.

A 16.2 inch XDR canvas.

The Liquid Retina XDR display runs at 3456 by 2234 pixels, 254 pixels per inch, with a 1,000,000 to 1 contrast ratio and one billion colours. It sustains 1000 nits full screen, peaks at 1600 nits for HDR and reaches up to 1000 nits for everyday SDR work, so a grade you finish at night still looks right beside a bright window. ProMotion scales up to 120Hz for smooth scrolling and playback.

Built for long days, and power cuts.

A 100Wh battery gives up to 22 hours of video streaming and up to 16 hours of wireless web. When the power goes in the middle of an export, you keep working. Plug back in with the 140W USB-C power adapter and MagSafe 3 for fast charging.

Every port. Four displays.

Three Thunderbolt 5 ports, HDMI, an SDXC card slot for camera cards, MagSafe 3 and a headphone jack mean no dongle bag. M5 Max drives up to four external displays, such as four at 6K 60Hz, or two at 8K 60Hz. The Apple N1 chip brings Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6, and a 12MP Center Stage camera with Desk View, a studio quality three mic array and a six speaker system with force cancelling woofers make client calls look and sound right.
